Travel Tip Tuesday:

Noche Vieja Universitaria (University New Year)

Is New Year’s your favorite holiday? Students in Spain just can’t wait until December 31 to party like it’s 2012! A few days ago, students from the University in Salamanca partook in the annual tradition of an early New Year’s Eve celebration at the famed Plaza Mayor.

Noche vieja is translated as “old night” or “New Year’s Eve” and was adopted as an annual tradition about ten years ago for the university students in Salamanca as a way to ring in the faux new year with their fellow classmates and friends. More than 20,000 students gather at the Plaza Mayor , some traveling as far from Valencia, Sevilla, and the Basque Country.
