Bodegas Briego is a family owned Spanish cellar, located in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, which has been producing fine red wines in a traditional style since 1990s. The Benito Hernando brothers, Fernando, Gaspar and Javier, owners of Bodegas Briego, practice the time-honored winemaking traditions they first learned from their father in the 1960s. The word Briego, which means “fight,” serves as a symbol for their fight for quality winemaking, the fight to defend the rural life, and in particular, their fight to revive the outlying village of Fompedraza. The project began with the first acquisition of vineyards in the municipalities of Curiel de Duero, Pesquera, Peñafiel and Fompedraza. In 1992, their winemaking ambitions were fulfilled with the production of their first wine under the D.O. Ribera del Duero. The wines are produced from Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), carefully selected to match the different types of wine - Joven, Roble, Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva. The wine undergoes a controlled fermentation to obtain the best quality in terms of body, structure, fruit aromas, etc. Bodegas Briego offers a wide range of products – in a classic and modern style – from fruity, young wines to high expression wines. The winery has received national and international recognition and awards.
