Bodega Virgen de la Asunción is located in the town of La Horra, in what is known as the “Golden Triangle” of Ribera del Duero, which is home to some of the best old-vine vineyards in the region. The average age of our vineyards is 60 to 70 years, which makes our wines rich, concentrated, and harmonious with expressive Ribera del Duero character. Rather than focus on producing expensive, limited-production luxury cuvées, our old-vine fruit is used to create wines that excel at more modest prices. Balance, depth, moderate alcohol levels and high drinkablity are all hallmarks of our wines. They are perfect for those seeking outstanding quality for a good price—across the range, from our young wines through to our Crianza, Selección and Reserva. The winery's rapid track to increased quality is reflected in a slate of award-winning wines in the 2009 edition of the prestigious Spanish Zarcillo international wine awards. Winners include the Silver Zarcillo for the 2006 Viña Valera Crianza; Gold Zarcillos for the 2007 Viña Valera Jóven and 2006 Zarzuela Crianza Oro award, and the top award, the Gran Zarcillo de Oro, for the 2007 Zarzuela Roble Selección, one of only twenty wines to achieve this honor. We are one of only two wineries to win four awards at the competition—marking us as a serious winery to watch.
