Founded in spring 1999, Bodegas Bohórquez is situated in Pesquera de Duero, in the heart of Ribera del Duero. The winery conducted years of analysis before settling on calcareous, stony site. A first acquisition was immediately followed by two more: a well-oriented hillside, 900 meters above sea level, and a second plot on right bank of the Duero River, destined to be the site of the winery (completed in 2003). In 2001 Bodegas Bohórquez purchased grapes from an old vines vineyard adjacent to their land, used to produce the first vintage in 2002; the winery managed viticulture, maintenance and harvest. In 2003, construction was completed on the new winery installation (a total of 2,000 square meters), featuring all the latest technologies for the production, aging, quality and sanity control, and environmental practices. In 2005, the winery chose the best wines of 2002 to offer a limited release of 3,000 magnums of Bodegas Bohórquez 2002. Harvest 2005 was the first to include a grape component from the winery’s own 68,000 vines, notably Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (limited to 2 bunches per vine). In January 2006 the winery launched 38,500 bottles of their first commercial wine, Bohórquez 2003; in May 2007, Bohórquez 2004 was released (55,500 750-ml bottles, 3,020 Magnums and 75 Double Magnums). Bohórquez 2005 has been on the market since September 2008, and was awarded a Decanter 4-stars.
