Bodegas Peñafiel is located in Peñafiel, Spain, in the heart of Ribera del Duero. Their vineyards are located at an altitude of 750 to 900 meters, on hillsides that allow for maximum sun exposure. The area receives approximately 500 mm of annual rainfall. Soil in the vineyards is primarily limestone, with some clay and sand. The bodega has 148 acres where they grow Tempranillo along with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The grapes are harvested by hand in 15-kg crates and are then hand-selected a second time on grading tables before being fermented in cone-shaped vats of 15,000 liters. The wine is then transferred to French oak from four different barrelmakers. Each Miros label features an original label painted by Spanish artists. The 2003 Miros Crianza was created by acclaimed painter Marc Jésus.

Tasting Notes

Deep red wine with intense violet shades. Presents a layer strong, bright and clean. The nose is complex, combining ripe fruit of the grape notes with the toasted and roasted in the barrel. On the palate the wine is large, fleshy and structured, while expressing great kindness and persistence.

Tasting Notes

This Crianza wine, unlike many other Crianza wines of Ribera del Duero, invited to drink, eat and to not stop smelling it because it doesn’t tire. Has an aromatic elegance achieved through a balance between depth (mineral, balsamic and scrubland notes), freshness, maturity (blackberries and raspberries) and aged in French oak barrels (which provide creaminess, structure and anise and toasted memories.) In the mouth appears just as one does not expect, a live input, a fresh and juicy step, and a long and dry end where they appear again the aging memories. In short it is a truly amazing aging as it passes from the big extractions of color and explosive aromas to coffee, cocoa and cedar.
